Project substation and gen-tie

Also: collector substation, generator tie line, gen-tie

The substation that steps a project's power up to grid voltage, and the line that carries it to the grid's point of interconnection.

A solar, wind or battery site gathers its power through a medium-voltage collection system to its own substation, which steps it up to transmission voltage. A generator tie line (gen-tie) then carries it to the utility's switchyard at the point of interconnection.

The substation and the gen-tie are often built by a specialist electrical contractor under the EPC, and sometimes permitted separately, so their filings can name a trade before anyone names the builder.
